Susan grew up in northwest Oklahoma City, attending Nichols Hills Elementary, Hoover Jr. High and John Marshall High School, graduating a year early in 1975. Her father, William S. Myers, Jr., served in World War II, continued his military service at Tinker serving as a JAG officer and retired as a Colonel. In the early ‘60s after practicing law for many years, he was elected as an Oklahoma County Judge and after serving for two years, was then appointed by Governor Dewey Bartlett to District Judge in Oklahoma County where he served for the next 20 years. Upon retirement, he pursued a lifelong dream of opening a salvage yard where he continued “working” until his mid 80s. Susan’s lengthy comments regarding her father are included as she is describing the man who made her who she is today.
After high school graduation, Susan moved to Norman, OK to attend the University of Oklahoma where she spent the next 4 years. She majored in Fashion Merchandising, with a minor in Spanish and Marketing. She spent most spring breaks and many weeks each summer in Puerto Vallarta. She joined Gamma Phi Beta sorority where she made many lifelong friends. During her last year of college, she interned for Paul Harris stores in Crossroads Mall in sales and merchandise display. Susan was promoted to assistant manager and upon graduating college, she was transferred to the Heritage Park Paul Harris where she served as manager for the next year and a half.
Shortly afterwards, Susan joined Charles S. Givens Interests in Property Management during the construction of The Waterford. It was the first multi-use development in Oklahoma City providing luxury condominium homes, 3 office buildings with retail shops at street level and a world class hotel. It was perfect for the empty nesters in Nichols Hills to sell their massive homes and move into a “maintenance-free” condominium lifestyle, where friends and relatives could stay at the hotel, with swimming pool and restaurants, and have an office in one of the 3 A class office buildings. Then Penn Square Bank failed and the oil bust of the 1980s began. Susan had gotten her Real Estate license as layoffs began at CSGI and after watching the leasing agents for the office buildings, who rarely came in and she would up showing spaces for them yet they made the big bucks, she decided to pursue a career in commercial real estate, specializing in retail properties.
In 1985, Susan joined what is now called CBRE. She spent her first year in a very good training program. She worked under a senior broker and won Rookie of The Year for completing the most transactions and making the most in commissions out of the “Rookie” class of about 10 new brokers. At the end of her fifth year with CBRE, she was recruited to Precor Realty Advisors where she assumed the position of Director of Leasing and being responsible for well over a million square feet of shopping centers and multiple office buildings owned by Precor. After roughly 4 years she had leased the majority of the real estate to full capacity and began to wonder where her deal would come from.
Susan had become well acquainted with Carl Edwards, one of the founding partners with Price Edwards & Company. Many times she had coffee to talk about her coming over to his firm. In May of 1994, she made the move and found her “forever” home in real estate. Carl polished her existing skills, making her smarter and savvier by following his lead. The company atmosphere and camaraderie was infectious and Susan spent the next 24 years continuing to follow Carl's lead and working with people that became like family.
